Perhaps if he and others of the “right-of-center” persuasion had made such things clear back in ‘10, we wouldn’t find ourselves in the present situation. You can’t elect a pack of ideologues under the assumption that they can be controlled once in office. You would think they’d have learned that lesson with Crazy Uncle Liberty.

For Ross Douthat, as with a number of conservatives (including me) the 2012 election was a clearing of vision. We had to realize our side has a very serious problem and won’t be able to to win the chance to govern or even be able to govern nationally till the problem is put on the path to correction.
