I know. I do wonder if they could be convinced otherwise if shown the consequences, though. Hundreds of thousands dead, an assassinated President, bloody ruin across the center of the country, animosity that will persist for centuries, god-awful racial violence and barbarism, all over racism and owning people as animals. “A decent respect to the opinions of mankind” with a little show and tell might have done some good.

It’s just fantasy, obviously, but it’s painful how short-sighted and cowardly they were.
