It goes beyond that: a community hospital that has a high rate of ER visits from people who cannot pay is a major drain on local resources and leads to higher rates for the folks who can pay.

The only rule is that an ER cannot turn you away for emergency care. Abolishing ACA will ensure that people who could be easily treated with medication or therapy that might cost in the hundreds will ignore those conditions until they require an emergency that costs in the thousands, and those costs will be passed on to the public.

It’s estimated that, because Texas has so many uninsured, that those of us with health care pay about $1000/year more than we would if everyone was covered.
