He was a racist elf but he seemed to have some measure of honor, not simply recusing himself from the investigation but refusing to bend to demands he investigate Trump’s political enemies. But like so many others who have that “but,” the reality remains that he worked for Trump and so his legacy (such as it is) will always end on that smell of rancid shit.

Unless he has earned enough wiggle room to write a strong self-absolving biography. He could make his case and a few Yankee dollars dumping the crap on a repudiated Trump administration. There’s a strong tradition of that in the Lost-Cause culture.
