Agree that there is a great deal of mental gymnastics involved in people like the example you shared.

For the purpose of this discussion though I am inclined to think of a cardiologist as a heart engineer… not to defame the occupation, but to make a point. I’ve come across many doctors who like to think of themselves as “scientists”, but unless they are doing research in medicine I think that appropriation of the term doesn’t clarify.

I’ve met many creationists who are good in their fields, and even some who are brilliant in one sense or the other.
