. Was that false history discussed even half as much as Sarah Palin’s comment about Russia being visible from Alaska? Or her asking what the interviewer meant about “the Bush Doctrine”? Or her not listing what newspapers she read?

Without Sarah Palin being quite possibly the worst modern VP candidate in recent memory, all of Biden’s gaffes would have been major headaches for the Democratic ticket. Problem is, when you have an idiotic statement like being able to see Russia from your house in Alaska, people tend to notice.

Also, it wasn’t just her gaffes that people noticed. It was also the fact that the McCain people kept her completely sheltered from any real media interaction and that she was blatantly chosen in a desperate bid to knock Obama off the front page. She didn’t enhance the GOP ticket. If anything, she made otherwise faithful Republicans wonder what the hell McCain was thinking and they really asked themselves if they wanted Caribou Barbie a heartbeat away from the Oval Office and with access to nukes.
