Trump thinks that this is shrewd move and shows he means business.

It’s what dictators do. Trump wants to emulate dictator behavior.

Anyone who was following Trump from before entering the race saw that Trump was an egomaniac who surrounded himself with sycophants who were paid to tell him what he wanted to hear. He didn’t care about competency or skill or knowledge.
