Canadian here.
Regarding the two bolded points: Quebec does not surprise me because the Francophone population there has long felt they aren’t taken seriously enough by the rest of the country. There was (and still is, albeit much smaller) a Quebec secessionist movement. This movement peaked with a province wide referendum in 1995 in which Quebecers voted narrowly to remain part of Canada. Many the prominent separatists were and still are butthurt over losing that one.
Alberta, is basically the Canadian version of Texas/The Deep south. Conservative, bible belt type Christians.
Ontario on the other hand generally tracks more Liberal but is currently run by dipshit mini-Trump Doug Ford. So who knows how that will end up.
One distinct difference about Canada: They don’t have Fox News or anything much like it to galvanize conservatives.
