Our eldest is also the smallest, a little stick of calico dynamite that we imaginatively named “Cally.” She’s actually the second calico we’ve had in the family since I was a kid, but her predecessor was a bigger and much more loving cat. Cally wants attention on his own time and is ornery when somebody ticks her off.

Our second eldest is this gray ball of fur we called “Smokey,” though he usually answers to “Bubby” because he’s such a lover. If you lay in bed, he will absolutely insist on getting under the covers with you, which is great in the winter, not so much in the summer. Also he whines constantly when he wants out, when he wants special food, when he wants to be petted, etc, etc, etc…

And the youngest is “Missy,” who we got second-hand from our neighbors mother-in-law, who had to be put in a nursing home. This cat is utterly neurotic and will run if you move anything other than a dead crawl towards her. And yet, for whatever reason, in the early morning and late evening, she suddenly decides she wants companionship and starts rubbing over everybody.

And me? I’m apparently know as “Meow” to them.
