re: #134 Charles Johnson

This sort of vandal fantasy is becoming more common. I think I read it at another site recently.

Pretty darn easy to burn the cities. Cut their power. Every large metropolitan area in this country needs massive amounts of electrical power to exist. And not one of them has the capability to generate any significant portion of their demand. NIMBY. So they depend on the high voltage lines leading to their cities. Take out a few of those and…

The best way to do that is taking out the high voltage transformers near the city end of those lines. They are oil-filled, and a few holes in their cases near the bottom will take them out of action. And there are no spares, so they will not be replaced for quite some time. Once they beef up security around the remaining transformers, take out some corner towers on the high voltage lines leading to the cities. The vertical members at the outside of each corner are under significant tension, so cutting through them will not bind the saw. The tower will fall to the inside of the corner, and should take at least two adjoining towers out as well. Of course, there are backup generators at some locations in those cities, but most skyscrapers will not have working elevators, and electrically powered rail won’t run. And can you imagine how much fun the feral chimps will have when there is no power? Ah, the joys of “Snake Plissken” and “Escape from New York”, brought to life!
