I am optimistic, but we will be a changed country, and diminished in stature. Maybe we’ll be a bit more humble, but it’ll take time to see if the right people will have learned it, the right people not being our elected officials, but voters.

I still think that historians will see that America was at its peak between Jan 1 1992, with the collapse of the USSR and Sep 11, 2001…We then hung on for a while until November 2016 where we started going downhill.

We are still far, far away from a collapse along the lines of Rome or Byzantium but yes, we will have to sober up and see that we can no longer compare our role in the world to what it was before 2001.
