That depends on where you live. I didn’t need any ID to buy a house, open a bank account, or show proof of residence to register my car. Everyone knows me here.

As for the claims of in-person voter fraud and benefits fraud, every bit of that could be solved with a national ID. Most countries use them.

But when you try to bring that up, you get anti-government wingnuts and a whole bunch of Christians who think that is some sort of satanic plan.

The best method of quelling their fears is also the one they won’t use.

Much of conservatism is like that (sex ed and contraception is the best methods for reducing abortion rates, so the oppose sex ed and contraception).
