re: #56 JasonA

I’m of the opinion that a lot of people are afraid that they’re offspring will start to see homosexuality as something that’s completely normal. That can be especially frightening to you if you believe that being gay is a choice. You want your little ones to see that it’s a horrible thing. I think that’s the real fear for a lot of family-oriented people at least.

Except that it is not really so much of a choice, and it is something that is normal in as much as a large percentage of people throughout all of history have been gay.

But as to a choice…

Think about it.

I certainly did not choose to like women. There was no free will in that.
I remember very clearly being a boy, seeing Princess Leah in that metal bikini, and from then on, girls went from icky to fascinating. It was like a switch being thrown in my 12 year old mind. It never switched back. It never went any other way.

I certainly had no choice in the matter.

Now it is certainly true that many people fall on a spectrum of sexual preference. There are people who are mostly of one orientation most of the time save special circumstances, but actual true 50-50 bisexual, where they would go for both types equally easily is pretty rare - especially amongst men.

Most people are what they are and they did not choose a damn thing.

Even people who are ok with both didn’t choose to be ok with both. They just are.

No definitely straight man gets up in the morning and decides he is bored with women so why not go find a guy. That just does not happen.

No definitely gay man gets up in the morning and decides he would prefer to be with a woman. In fact, they find the idea of sex with a woman as alien as I would find sex with a man. Unfortunately for gay people though there is sufficient societal pressure to not be who they are that the frequently try to force themselves to be other than they are.

So I ask you do this thought experiment.

Please imagine that someone told you that you could never touch a woman again, but G-d wanted you to have all the sex you want with men. Could you do that?
