Megaroc was a 1946 British proposal to modify a captured V-2 rocket and use it to send an insane intrepid volunteer into suborbital space. The astronaut would have been weightless for several minutes. In retrospect, the idea was workable though exceedingly dangerous, and could have put a man into space, albeit briefly, by 1950.
