Seriously? You must not know too many Iranians. Many of the ones I knew who had to leave Iran because of the revolution were very anti-religion—i.e. most still considered themselves Muslim, but they had an intense hatred for the mullahs, pasdaran, etc.

I moved out of Los Angeles with my family 20 years ago. I know a few in Dallas who do have hatred towards their government, but they’re not stupid enough to be kissing ass to Republicans who wouldn’t give a damn about their well-being. But they’re the exception, rather the norm. The norm is that they think they are somehow more “modern” and more “liberal” because they have a superiority complex and can’t get over the fact that the Arab invasion happened 1400 years ago. They hate Islam yet have no problem quoting poetry from prominent Persian Muslims such as Rumi or Hafez or Omar Khayyam.

Also, the likelihood of an Iranian Anders Breivik is much higher than with other diasporas that hail from nominally Muslim communities, given how many in the diaspora view themselves as “Patriots” while expressing hatred of Muslims.
