Just a matter of time. Media are much more vulnerable than abortion providers since they have to get out where the action is to report on it. Big outlets and big name reporters can afford top flight security, though it might constrain their movements. Smaller outlets and lesser known people are terrifyingly easy targets for the nuts. Theoretically, the entire resources of the government should be available to protect the free press but with the government as the instigator of the problem, that isn’t going to happen.
This is how it will happen. Bannon will not send federal agents or even local police out to round up reporters. The ACLU would be all over them in a heartbeat, with millions of new supporters in the wings. Instead, they will use their plausibly deniable proxy army of ammosexuals, rogue cops, dominionist militias, and other crazies, probably aided and abetted by fascist elements in law enforcement. They have been grooming this proxy army for years and it is almost ready to act.
Not surprisingly, this is the pattern Putin has used in Ukraine and elsewhere. Instead of regular Russian troops he uses “volunteer” militias, private security contractors, and criminal gangs of every possible configuration.
