They tried making a big thing about the War on Christmas in Germany, but it did not get taken up by the media. People have Christmas traditions that are both rooted in Christianity, and others that are obviously a heck of a lot older.

And basically, everybody loves a good Christmas market with mulled wine, bratwursts, handicrafts, wooden toys, manger scenes with live animals, etc.

Heck, a lady named Käthe Wolfarth started a chain of stores that sell Christmas ornaments year-round in all the tourist centers like Rüdesheim Nürnberg and Rothenburg ov der Tauber.

Germans I think are probably more aware of propaganda when they see it than Americans are.
