re: #137 Targetpractice
If you’re saying to yourself “How can any business not have fixed this problem in 20 years?,” think about it this way: The IRS couldn’t process electronic tax returns 2 years ago because the Rube Goldberg-esque interface built to allow modern-ish computers to interface with a computer built in the 1960s to handle all the nation’s tax information had a minor bug that the big-wigs decided wasn’t serious enough to pay the programmers to squash until the entire system went down.
Or, to put it another way, the major hotel chain I work with has thousands of hotels still using a Property Management System that looks like it was “new” when Reagan was in office.
OPERA! God what a POS from Oracle. I used it at an old hotel I was at then went to work for Comfort Suites. We had the wonderful completely online system that was fast, reliable & everything you could want. Then the owners changed franchise to Holiday Inn Express and they said we’d get this wonderful NEW PMS system.
I took about a week before the rest of the staff understood why I started swearing a blue streak at that moment…
