Oh yes. He lost thirty pounds, and rejiggered his diet, and has so far stayed off the insulin. Also had an unexpected benefit—for years, I mean since I was a little girl, he’d been prone to fits of anger and frustration that we now think were tied to blood sugar dips. He’s been carrying around cheese sandwiches, and his mood is much more level.

Of course, now we are dealing with his lymphoma, and have had to stop chemo for a while, because his stupid platelet count won’t cooperate. My husband and I are still working on how we can explain to our parents that this aging crap is not allowed. They are required to stay sixty-something and healthy for the foreseeable future. We have had enough of this getting cancer business.
