Climate Scientists Smack WSJ Over Op-Ed From Non-Climate Scientists

I’m surprised this page hasn’t yet been derped by dead-thread deniers. So, let me take this opportunity to preempt what I predict will be their next tired talking point:

Durr hurr! Europe cold! What gorebull warming?!?!1

Oh wait:

Global warming could plunge North America and Western Europe into a deep freeze, possibly within only a few decades. That’s the paradoxical scenario gaining credibility among many climate scientists. The thawing of sea ice covering the Arctic could disturb or even halt large currents in the Atlantic Ocean. Without the vast heat that these ocean currents deliver—comparable to the power generation of a million nuclear power plants—Europe’s average temperature would likely drop 5 to 10C (9 to 18F)

The above article is from 2004. Have we since lost sea ice in unprecedented amounts? We sure have. Is Europe’s temperature suffering as a result? Why yes, yes it is, exactly as predicted.

As for the USA, in January 2012, here are your record lows…

…and here are your record highs.

And you don’t even want to know what the summer has in store.
