I would agree with your latter point, to the religious fundamentalists’ chagrin. The fact is that a stable marriage is more based on the sexual and personal compatibility of the partners than on the religious orientation thereof.
Religious orientation can have a big difference. My first marriage ended when my Presbyterian wife was convinced I was possessed by demons when I developed epilepsy.
She divorced for cause (allowed in Florida). My mistake in my divorce case was my argument I did not want a divorce, I was committed to my wife and son. Instead, the judge gave her everything including my VA disability and turned me out on the street for eleven years.
