Funny enough, many of the “production” values are ok - usually good sound/music, enough cameras, lighting, even graphics.

The big hole tends to be the story line, and as you pointed out there are a handful of scenarios that get redone all the time, with the next set of overly pretty, sexy, 20-somethings.

It’s become easy to tell when one of these new TV shows are going to be bad - the lead characters are all that age - usually about 10 years older than the intended viewing market. So to get the coveted young adult market (the best return on ad dollars) the actors tend to be 20’s to early 30’s.

The better shows tend to have older actors playing older characters, as well as some external story (from a previous work) with which to build.
