The way the system is designed (or at least the way it operates today), the verdict in a Senate trial is almost always going to be predetermined and the testimony irrelevant. Not only is there the question of partisanship, there is the fact that the House conducts its investigation in public. Meaning, Senators (unlike jurors in a standard criminal defense trial) have access to information before impaneled.

Moreover, if the Senate was doing its job, they would also be conducting oversight of the administration and thus would likely find additional information (something at jurors in trials are not typically supposed to do).

Also, interestingly enough, Adam Schiff was the lead manager in the last impeachment trial in the Senate.
