The best good news that I saw today is that Diane Nash is among the Medal of Freedom Recipients.

She was one of the organizers of the Freedom Rides. After the first wave of riders, John Seigenthaler called her on behalf of the Kennedy Administration to talk her out of organizing more rides. He told her that it was really dangerous. She answered that they were all well aware and all had made out their wills.

I show parts of the Freedom Riders documentary and Seigenthaler recounts this story. It’s a gut punch every time I see it. College kids, making their wills.
