re: #134 Jay C

What happened? Are you/Mrs. Mouse OK??

Coming home from the Cheyenne VA hospital last night, we hit a deer at sixty miles per hour three miles from home. (There were two, I missed the first and hit the second, smaller one.)

Fortunately, no injuries (other than the deer). Our car has considerable damage, but fortunately the expensive parts of a car (engine, drivetrain, &c) are all in the back of a Smart.

Just got off the phone (again) with the car repair shop in Sterling, Colo. after getting off the phone (again) with my insurance company. The repair shop is arranging a flat-bed truck to come to my home to pick up our car and take it to Sterling (about ninety miles).

The nearest auto body shop is in Bayard, Nebr. (about thirty), but they won’t repair a Smart. Our insurance will pay for a tow to the nearest shop that can do the work, which appears to be the shop in Sterling.

Our insurance will also pay $30 a day for a rental car, but the nearest rental agency is in Scottsbluff (sixty miles).

We’re waiting for the tow company in Colorado to call now to make arrangements to pick up our car, and the insurance adjuster to call to tell us how the payment will go down.

If the car only needs to be in Sterling a few days, we’ll probably just forego the rental car and sit at home. If this is going to be an extended wait, we’ll need another car until ours is fixed.
