Because it’s not actually the truth about what any individual did.

Nor is it about having an actual standard of conduct that the Nazis breached, and thus those tied to the Nazis are in violation of.

It’s about the word “Nazi” being useful as a way to tarnish a man they don’t like. And at the same time they will defend people who have appropriated large quantities of Nazi ideas—most of whom are savvy enough to not actually declare themselves Nazi, but have a variety of code terms—because they’re useful.

Words don’t mean anything.
