Looking up more about the two candidates (there were more, but the others have dropped out), Bryce started fundraising and working right after Trump was elected. He’s testified in the state legislature against Walker’s anti-union legislation, &c.

There is a bit of cowardice: He’s afraid to debate because he thinks it might hurt him. The two Democrats who announced to run against Ratcliffe here in Texas not only had a debate, but they showed up at the Rockwall Democratic luncheon to pitch their platforms. A debate wouldn’t hurt him.
