Yup. Most of the US landmass has a rural population density. The overwhelming majority of people living in the US live in cities and their exurbs. That’s why maps that show where people live/vote better represent the outcome of the elections.
Maps showing lots of red make the GOPers feel better about the fact that they lost the popular vote and that they think land votes (which in perverse way it does by and through the EC, which gives sparsely populated states a vastly overrated say in government).
