Zero evidence that they had whips.

Plenty of evidence that they whipped people.

Correct, but not the point. The American pro-law-enforcement and anti-immigrant people (generally the same thing, but not 100% overlap) are going to use the technical distinction - “used whips” vs. “whipped people” - to dismiss and minimize this incident, saying that because the pro-compassion crowd got one minor fact wrong, their entire point is invalid. It’s how logic works with these people.
