For Americans, the dropping of the nukes on Japan ended the war and we kind of forget (maybe on purpose) that the nukes were more of a 1-2 punch - the second punch being the invasion of Japanese held territories in China by the USSR which pretty much wiped out the Japanese there (and the Japanese had most of their military in China).
