I watched an episode once out of curiosity and cultural masochism: my opinion of the women is that they were witty and attractive but there was nothing about them that anyone could fall in love with: no depth, no art or poetry in them.
Having watched only episode, too, I wonder if that was the subtext to the whole series. They were the female versions of shallow dudes trolling the bars hoping to score.
Another thing I never got was how Sarah Jessica Parker became some kind of sex symbol. YMMV.
