Well, we have murder hornets… .

Stuff’s dangerous enough around here. A couple days ago my wife shook a brown recluse spider out of her shoes, and I found one in the kitchen sink (it took a water rapids trip through the village sewer system to the sewage lagoon).

Then there’s the rattlesnakes, bears, and mountain lions.

We’re not as bad as Australia, but nature does a pretty good job of trying to kill you here too.

I used to live on the edge of the desert near Phoenix in a rundown former dude ranch.

You shook out your shoes, hung a net over your bed to keep scorpions from dropping onto it and placed the legs of the bedstead in cans of oil so they could not crawl up it.

And never put your hands anywhere without checking it first.

The crumbling adobe walls had clumps of grass growing out of them…we called it “Little Prairie on the House”…
