If the Killian memos were planted, they could have created a much more convincing forgery by using a manual typewriter. That’s what a ratfucker would do. This was strictly amateur hour.

If this was a GOP ratfucking operation, then having the forgeries be completely obvious would have been part of the plan.

If CBS news does their job properly, they catch the forgery and no harm is done to the GOP cause.

If CBS News fucks up, the GW Bush TANG story is completely killed off, and Dan Rather and CBS take a big credibility hit, which is exactly what happened.

Those aren’t bad odds for something that could have been done by Rove in 1/2 hour. Especially if the Bushies had reason to suspect that Rather/CBS news were behind the times technically.
