I’m not a fan of the “trains run on time” argument, or of political repression in general.
However, even a completely ideal political system in a relatively small/poor country seems certain to be subverted more or less completely by large multinationals for a pittance.
I’m not sure what the takeaway from this is. It’s pointless to try democracy in a small or poor country because it’ll just get subverted anyway, therefore Chavez’s undermining of democracy is no big deal?
