Indeed.

Disturbed, though. And wondering how in hell you govern a country when a significant chunk will interpret any action or policy you undertake as anti-American simply because you favor it. It’s really a case of seeing the world through shit-colored glasses.

We’ve seen time and time again that Obama attempts compromise, even staking out a starting position that is very near to what Republicans propose, only to have them back away from their own proposals, taking ever more extreme positions. I used to think it was a highly cynical negotiating tactic, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it really is a case of the Right automatically thinking anything Obama supports MUST BE bad, even if it’s their own damned proposal.

How can one work under those conditions? It’s not just that the opposition is crazy and stupid. It’s that simply trying to work with them makes them crazier and stupider.
