I don’t need think (many of) McConnell, Ryan, and the rest of the GOP establishment types knowingly worked with the Russians. And I get the sense that they know Trump is compromised. But they also think they need Trump at the moment.

Ryan and McConnell could go to Pelosi and Schumer and get votes for impeachment and removal. But that is also going to require some form of compromise that the GOP back benchers are generally unfamiliar with. It would also mean a large part of their base would turn on them, they might be willing to deal with that if they got some of their agenda passed first - they could gum up the works enough as a minority party to keep it in place for a while. But they know a Pence Administration would be weak - and delayed because Pence would likely replace most/all of Trump’s appointments.

I still expect Trump to be the patsy when this all goes down
