At least a dozen people tweeted at me overnight, denying that Trump has unilateral authority to order a nuclear attack, and saying it has to be approved by Congress. Why are so many people in denial about this? This information isn’t secret.

It’s irritating and frustrating as hell to be deluged by this kind of ignorance on something so important.

I can understand confusion about the exact details of the National Command Authority chain of command and what (if anything) they can do to stop a deranged POTUS, but this business of needing Congressional approval is just brain-dead stupid.

It is a priori ridiculous for Congressional approval to be needed to launch the nukes because Congress takes forever to do anything (except extending copyright duration), and you don’t have that kind of time in a ‘launch the nukes’ decision scenario.
