What I read in this statement is Trump is trying to lay the groundwork for firing Mueller, laying out the talking points ahead of time so when he performs the Saturday Night Massacre, the GOP knows what to say immediately when the press come a-calling.

It’s rather interesting that McConnell is working with Schumer to keep the Senate in session so that Trump can’t appoint anyone.
