It’s quite amazing that they think they could undo 70+ years of integration (basically everything they’ve done with respect to Europe since the end of WWII) in a little over a year.

Britain’s longest-standing foreign policy directive is simple: prevent Europe from uniting, as a united Europe could potentially become an existential threat to the UK.

I’m not saying a united Europe would be an existential threat, at least not nowadays, but this ancient idea is still very much alive in the minds of the Brits.
