The EC was a vestige of the founding of the nation where a significant portion of the population was enslaved. It doesn’t serve a purpose to elect a president via direct elections, which is how every other elected position is elected (governors, mayors, senators, congressmembers, etc.)

Direct elections work everywhere else, but not for the president? Yeah, that’s not a solid argument in favor of the EC.
