Doomsday Scenario: Mid-October 2020. Trump, badly behind in the polls and clearly at risk of losing the election, decides to start a war/use nukes on a foreign country in a desperate attempt to boost his popularity and try to remain in the White House.

There is absolutely nothing in Trump’s character or in the GOP that would serve to check this possibility. The only defense is institutional inertia in the senior military brass.
