I know you were speaking sarcastically. But I have an honest question about this type of belief. Is there any modern christian theology to back up the idea that contemporary suffering has anything to do with one’s state of grace?

Mother Theresa believed it. She withheld pain meds from suffering patients so they could be closer to Jesus.
