Obama should go all out for the universal background check, with the mag restriction as a second priority. I talk to a great many gun fanciers, including full-bore (!) NRA kooks. They are overwhelmingly in favor of closing the private sale loophole even though the NRA itself (the LaPierre gang) opposes doing so. It is something we can get and it would make a real difference out on the streets.
