The lightweight construction, with engineered trusses allow for larger clear spans, with less structural support underneath, but that means if there’s a fire, it’s far more likely to result in collapse due to the structure being weakened.
So, while an engineered trust allows for those open floor plans, it means that a fire could take down the entire structure that traditional dimensional lumber and smaller spans would have survived.
Something akin to 9/11 and the long-span trusses that supported the floors in the Towers?
