Yup. There’s a lot of former catchers that turned into professional managers. Catchers in baseball basically call the game. Softball leagues are different because there aren’t really pitches to call, but catchers still have to have the overall view of the game and where the play is to be made.

Depends on the league. In most of the fast-pitch leagues, you need to call pitches. And even in slow-pitch, there’s still pitcher management, meaning dealing with the psyche of a pitcher who is often as much of a prima donna as any Cy Young winner.
