re: #128 Obdicut

They are pushing a bill that will end up driving up the deficit once the 3-year cushion runs out. The phase in of the health care proposals takes place over several years, but the tax hit starts right away. That might let the 10 year cost claim to be netural, but that cushion will be eaten away over time, and there’s no cost savings for the actual cost of care through all this.

The main way the health care bill works is to shift who pays - but not reducing the costs of care. Reducing the cost of care was was one of the main talking points for all this all along, and it doesn’t even provide universal care (precisely because the cost for that was too high even for most Democrats). The bill at the same time mandates getting coverage, even for those millions of people who do not want it and then there are the high level plans, often provided by unions that will get whacked by this bill.

Instead of starting with something like allowing individuals to buy insurance from any approved carrier that wants to do business anywhere in the country - so an individual could buy a policy that they want - not a mandated gold plated policy like in CA or NY, they opted to push a mess that was poorly thought out let alone not read by most of the rank and file.
