re: #129 Robert O.

My better judgement tells me Kim Jong-Un is just copying his father.

Recall that in 1994, Kim Il-Sung died, North Korea (like other Communist countries at the time) lost privileged access to Soviet aid and the Soviet market. North Korea was in famine. Kim Jong-Il made an IDENTICAL food for no-nukes deal with President Clinton. There is a famous photograph of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright toasting the “Dear Leader” and giving him a basketball signed by Michael Jordan. We know what eventually happened.

Kim Jong-Un isn’t trying anything new or inventing a new idea for himself. All the thinking has already been done for him.

As I recall it, we (President Clinton) gave him fuel for nuclear electricity much to the chagrin of Congress who was pissed off at the whole affair, but it did work. We had the inspectors in there. Even though Jong iL was still trying to acquire nuclear weapons, he had not during Clinton’s presidency so the inspectors were, at least, a good enough deterrent.

George W. cancelled the fuel deal within his first 100 days in office and it’s rumored they have moved much further along in their nuclear weapons pursuits since 2000.
