So today my middle schooler asked me to take him to the record/cd store. He mostly downloads, but wanted something tangible. I let him roam and didn’t say anything because he’s already too influenced by my music. He got Yes “Fragile.” We listened during dinner and it was better than I remembered from when my brother used to play it in the ’70s. I’m not a big fan of Yes/Genesis/King Crimson, etc., but who knows, maybe he’ll teach me to like some of it. Downside: he said “I want to learn to play bass.”

Just tell him some bassist jokes, like this gem:

Q: What do you call a bassist in a three-piece suit?
A: “Defendant”.
