Since the GOP controlled the Senate, there was nothing Obama could do to get Garland confirmed. It wasn’t the filibuster that stopped the appointment, it was Moscow Mitch.

The Democrats had the House for only two years — so most legislation was doomed after that. But you are right about the public option.

I am terrified though of what happens when the GOP controls all branches of the government again without a filibuster — the evil they will accomplish is breathtaking in scope.

I think people are just going to have to think about that more than they have. “If you don’t like that the GOP is planning on cutting all funding for special education, then maybe you shouldn’t vote for them.” (In quotes so that you know it’s not meant to be directed at you.)
