re: #149 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

If we were all hatched out as fully formed adults, ready to be fitted with an education ship and sent out to realize our potential as individuals on a competitive marketplace, then I could begin to understand Libertarianism or Ayn Randism.

But we are born dependent, and spend our first years and often many of our last years dependent on others. We are not born as isolated individuals, but as a part of a family, which is usually part of some larger social/ethnic group.

I want a society that takes these notions into consideration and is not just based on some abstract concept of individual freedom vs government control.

You could say the same thing about outright socialism too. The thing about objectivists like their socialist fraternal twins is they’re all about their theory at the expense of real life data and observations. I’m a Keynesian in big part because I believe you need to look at data and what’s really going on in society.
